Vacancies

BPSO currently has vacancies in the following sections:

  • Principal Percussionist

The British Police Symphony Orchestra (BPSO) is inviting applications for a Principal Percussionist vacancy.

Uniting the police service with the magic of music to engage, excite and enlighten communities in the UK and beyond, the British Police Symphony Orchestra (BPSO) is a unique force of volunteers, drawn from across the United Kingdom. BPSO’s musicians are either serving or retired Police Officers, Police Staff, or other members of the extended Police Family. We celebrated our 37th Anniversary this year.

As a truly national orchestra, our community extends across the entire British Isles and we have performed to audiences as far apart as Glasgow to the Taj Mahal, India. Our concert venues are equally diverse and include muddy fields, stately homes, sports halls and cathedrals, as well as many of the country’s finest concert halls, including The Royal Albert Hall and an annual concert in Symphony Hall Birmingham, every December since it opened.

Our repertoire is very varied, ranging from symphonies, overtures, show music, opera and film scores, including Bollywood, through to audience favourites and world premieres of arrangements of Bowie, Mercury and Wakeman.

All musicians travel in their own time and at their own expense, from homes all over the United Kingdom, for one weekend each month to rehearse or perform in a variety of venues. Expressions of interest in this vacancy, to include details of orchestral experience, should be sent to BPSO Secretary, Rosie Chandler at rosie@bpso.net no later than 4pm Monday 16th February 2026.

A full role description and further detail about the orchestra membership and recruitment policy will be provided by return, along with forthcoming rehearsal and concert dates.
