We’re thrilled that The Black Watch Association Pipe Band are joining us for Highland Cathedral and A Musical Salute at Symphony Hall, Birmingham for the Proms Night Spectacular on Saturday 7th December 2019. Tickets are available here. Here they are rehearsing with us in Stafford at our final rehearsal before the big night!

Find out more about our Proms Night Spectacular.

The Black Watch Association Pipe Band is based in Newcastle-under-Lyme, Staffordshire. Founded in 1968 mainly from ex-servicemen of the 1st and 6th Battalions the Black Watch, today’s bandsmen come from a wide variety of backgrounds.

In addition to supporting the Black Watch Association (Stoke-on-Trent) Midlands Branch, the band plays at parades, carnivals, fêtes, weddings and funerals, as well as military association events and many other special functions.

In 2018, the band chalked up 50 years of service and has one founding member still amongst its ranks. To ensure its continuation, the band provides tuition for those wishing to learn pipes or drums. The youngest learner currently undergoing tuition is 11 years old.

In November this year, the band led the Newcastle-under-Lyme Remembrance Day Parade – a service it has provided to the borough since 1990. Earlier in the year, the band played for the Royal British
Legion’s Monte Cassino 75 event at the National Memorial Arboretum, an event commemorating 75 years since those fierce battles in Italy during the 2nd World War.

In December 2017, members of the band were privileged to perform with André Rieu & his Johann Strauss Orchestra on his UK tour when he played at the Genting Arena at the NEC.
