The evening culminates in a spectacular Proms-style finale, complete with a dazzling indoor firework extravaganza — the perfect ending to a night of musical magic.

As a former serving police officer himself, Danny is proud to introduce this remarkable orchestra of volunteers drawn from across the United Kingdom. The musicians of the British Police Symphony Orchestra are serving or retired police officers, police staff and members of the extended police family, united by their passion for music and community.

Compère - Danny Mizon

Danny Mizon was a police officer in London for over 31 years finally retiring in December 2021 having spent his last 12 years with the Marine Policing Unit. He joined the orchestra’s percussion section in 1999 and appeared in uniform for many years as the orchestra’s regular Compère.

Twelve years ago Danny took over the role as the orchestra’s compere at the annual Proms Night Spectacular and Family Matinee Concert at Symphony Hall, Birmingham each December.

He was soon invited to Compère at Lichfield’s Proms in Beacon Park, a huge free event each September which currently attracts an audience of over 10,000. The orchestra had been headlining here for many years so it was a real honour for him to move to the front.

The character of PC Danny is now well known to the hundreds of young families that have attended our shows and they look forward to joining in his with his jokes and adventures each year.

The BPSO was always proud to have a serving officer, in uniform, as Compère and is looking forward to his new non-uniformed guise as an ambassador for both the BPSO and the police service.
