How We Started
The British Police Symphony Orchestra
The orchestra came together in 1989 following a nationwide invitation sent to all police forces asking musicians to join the new Police National Orchestra. Tours and concerts followed and it eventually became The British Police Symphony Orchestra, one of the best non-professional orchestras in the country.
With some regular commitments throughout the year the orchestra employs a professional Music Director and works with some of the UK's leading soloists. Nominated for Gramophone Magazine's 'Music In The Community' Prize in 2011, the orchestra continues to delight audiences around the country.
The orchestra receives no funding from the police service although several Chief Constables hold the post of trustee. The members of the orchestra raise their own funds and are delighted to be associated with TTC Group who is their current season sponsor.
We are always keen to hear from players who would like to join us. You should have a significant level of experience of playing with a good regional or area orchestra and be willing to attend a rehearsal weekend for an informal audition. You should also be connected with the police service, either serving or retired or be connected in some way with the extended police family.
